About Dr Stacy L Spencer
Dr. Stacy L. Spencer is arguably one of the country’s emerging pastoral leaders and visionaries. He serves as Senior Pastor, New Direction Christian Church in Memphis, Tennessee. The man of humble beginnings now leads one of the country’s fastest growing congregations with a membership of more than 13,000 members in three campuses in the Memphis area and another in Dutwya, South Africa in only 8 years.
The Olmstead, Ky. native is a tech-savvy pastor as he ministers to thousands throughout cyberspace using FaceBook.com, Twitter.com, Blogspot.com, iTunes.com, YouTube.com and MySpace.com. Coming in February 2010, a New Direction will release its free iPhone application that allow users to download MP3s of sermons, listen to New Direction’s online radio station, PowerZoneRadio.org, read Dr. Spencer’s daily devotional blogs, request prayer, participate in an interactive Bible study using Facebook and Twitter. In July 2009, New Direction was the first church the region to use the social networking sites to connect worshippers to New Direction’s webcast of its weekly Bible Study. Using Facebook, people can watch the Bible study live, post comments, chat with other Facebook viewers and ask questions of Dr. Spencer at the conclusion of the message. Using Twitter, congregants (online and live) can tweet about the message and post questions. People can also connect with the ministry Tuesdays at 10 a.m. on Comcast’s Channel 17.
Dr. Spencer is an accomplished author. In April 2009, Naked and Unashamed: The Journey Sexual Fulfillment in Christian Marriage (Stasis Productions). The book, available at Amazon.com, helps Christian married couples begin the journey toward sexual fulfillment. The impetus for the book was his widely successful Bible study, 40 Nights of Great Sex. More than 400 diverse couples attended the 5-week marriage seminar. The interactive classes, co-facilitated with his wife, Rhonda F. Spencer, were profiled in Commercial Appeal, Time Magazine, ABC Nightline and garnered international attention from France and Germany. In January 2010, Dr. Spencer released his second book, U-Turn: 12 Step Guide to Spiritual Transformation written to help people experience a deeper and more fulfilling relationship with Christ. His daily devotion is also included in the 2007 365 Meditations for Men by Men (Abbington Press) and his two of his sermons were in the 2001 African American Pulpit.
Dr. Spencer serves as Chairman, Board of Directors, for the Power Center Community Development Corporation. The independent non-profit Power Center CDC launched the Power Center Academy, a Memphis City Schools Charter School, educating more than 100 sixth grade students. Dr. Spencer also serves as an officer of Power Center Enterprises, parent company of Soul Café restaurant and Fillin’ Station and Fillin’ Station II Bookstores. He earned a Doctorate of Divinity from Drew University, Madison, N.J. (1999), a Masters of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky. (1993) and a Bachelor in Broadcast Communication, Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, Ky. (1990).
February 1, 2009, Dr. Spencer opened Wash & Cuts, a full-service upscale barber, beauty and car care salon in the heart of the Hickory Hill community, located at 3581 Hickory Hill. The business employs nearly 20 employees including barbers, hair stylists; nail technicians, a concierge, detailers and auto mechanics. Beyond bringing a positive business to the community, Spencer wants Wash & Cuts to give back more with a Gifted Hands program, an apprentice program to help young people learn relevant skills and trades.
He and his wife, Rhonda, are the proud parents of 4 sons: Calvin, Omari, Jordan and Jaden Lynn. |
